Hellwig Pro Series Helper Springs Installation - 2018 Ford F-150

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2018 Ford F-150. And we're gonna be taking a look at, and I'm gonna show you how to install the Hellwig Pro Series Helper Springs. This kit is going to essentially consist of two leaf springs that you're going to add to the top of your leaf pack. And essentially what they're designed to do is to help keep the back end of your truck up, when normally your truck would be sagging. The biggest issue with the newer trucks that are coming out, especially the half-ton trucks, is because they want to make the suspension soft enough to where it's comfortable to drive when it's unloaded, but they have to put a little bit of strength into it so that you can still tow a trailer and the truck doesn't sag to the ground. more

Before we get into that though let's just take a couple minutes, check these out and make sure they're gonna work for you. So when it comes to suspension enhancements, you know claims and features and all that are great, but really what everyone cares about, you know, are they actually gonna work Are they gonna make a difference And so we'll do a couple of tests here. Right now we got the factory suspension installed and we put quite a bit of weight in the bed of the truck and when we did that, it squatted way down, the front end raised up and its really putting a good load on our suspension. So we'll drive around, see how it feels, that way we have something to compare it to whenever we get our new parts on. more

Hey, everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2021 Ford F-150, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs for the rear axle. But before we do that, why don't we take a couple of minutes, check 'em out, and make sure that they're gonna work for you Now what we usually like to do is get some before and after, you know, that way we could really get a good feel on how well the air springs, you know, made our ride improve. In today's case though, our truck bed is just full of stuff, has a big, huge cargo management system in there, and we usually put a big, heavy tank back there to really get weight over that axle and test some air springs out. But because of that, not really able to get the weight back there. So figured at the very least maybe we can cruise around, kind of get a feel for 'em, and see how they're gonna affect our ride when we don't have something super heavy back there. more

Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Rear Axle Ultimate Air Helper Springs Installation - 2020 Ford F-150

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2020 Ford F-150, and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs. What air helper springs are designed to do is provide support in the rear end of your truck when you're hauling either a heavy load in the bed, or from the hitch on the back. There's a couple different reasons of why this is a really good addition to your vehicle is if you have a smaller fifth wheel camper, or a travel trailer that you're pulling, maybe a car trailer, something like that, that your truck is constantly sagging in the rear, making it uncomfortable to drive. This is designed to bring it back up to where the truck is level. It's not necessarily designed to bring it back up to factory ride height, because at that point, you've got a little too much air in it. more

Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Rear Air Helper Springs Installation - 2020 Ford F-150

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 rear helper airbags on a 2020 Ford F-150. Trucks are meant for work, generally, but as we've seen as trucks have gotten bigger and they become crew cabs, they become our daily drivers. And unfortunately, the suspension's kind of designed for comfortable driving, but when we need it to work, sometimes that suspension gets a little overworked and that's because our jounce bumpers can only do so much and it takes so long for that suspension to compress before they really do anything. And at that point, you're putting quite a bit of load on your suspension. So whether you have something in the bed of your truck that's heavy or you have a tongue weight that's heavy on a trailer, or in the case of our neighbor here, you're using a fifth wheel, that truck is gonna see sag in the back. And that's kind of bad for the rear suspension because it is overworking it. more

Adding air helper Springs here to F-150 is gonna be an excellent option, if you do a lot of towing or hauling. Now, there's many types of suspension enhancement systems on the market. Airbags however, in my mind are the best and also the most popular. I'm sure you're asking yourself, why are airbags the best Well, it's actually pretty simple. The reason airbags are the best is because they're adjustable. more

Hey everybody, how's it going Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Active Suspension System here on our 2018 Ford F1-50. So with our RAS kit here, we do have two options. We have the standard duty model, which has a 2000-pound weight capacity. And we have the heavy duty model, which has a 3000-pound weight capacity. The correct one for you is really gonna come down to what you're towing and how often. If you have a car hauler trailer that you travel across country every day, that's what I would probably recommend the HD version or if you just simply have a really heavy trailer that's close to the capacity of your truck. more

Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Rear Air Helper Springs Installation - 2019 Ford F-150

Hey, everybody, how's it going Today, we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter airbags here on our 2019 Ford F-150. So, airbags are going to be a great option for your F-150 here if you find yourself to be doing a lot of towing or hauling. So, the reason we might need airbags is when we have a heavy load in the bed of our truck, or you have a trailer coupled, the rear end of the truck is actually going to sag down a little bit due to that weight. Now that rear end sag, it's going to cause a number of different problems. So aside from just looking funky, no one necessarily wants the rear end of their truck to be sagging lower than the front, but something that a lot of people don't realize, and you really wouldn't actually know this until you got in your vehicle, and you started towing, is that the reduced stopping power we're going to have when the rear of our truck is squatting down there is actually quite significant. Now, the reason it affects our braking is because the majority of our braking force is going to be on the front axle. more

Shane: Hey everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2013 Ford F-150, and I want to walk through how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs for the rear axle. Air helper springs are designed to support load in the back of the vehicle when you add weight. The reason we want that is because as we put weight in the back of our vehicles, it's going to drop the back end. We're putting unnecessary stress on our rear axle because our suspension can't handle the weight. When we do that, we raise the front end, our headlights aim up in the air, not at the ground, we have uneven tire wear because our tires turn in. more

If you stick around at the end of the video, we are going to go through that process together. If you're looking for airbags for your truck, it's most likely because you either haul a heavy load in the bed of your truck, or you tow a trailer pretty often and most likely it's probably a pretty heavy load for a trailer. more

Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Airlift LoadLifter 5,000 Air Helper Springs for the rear axle on our 2019 Ford F-150. Now, the need for airbags comes in when you're towing a heavy trailer, you have a heavy load in the back or anything that's going to be putting a lot of weight on the back axle of your truck. What ends up happening is we have all that weight that starts pushing down, puts a lot of strain and stress on the rear axle. Not to mention, it's going to end up causing a teetering effect, which will pull up the front end, which means our tires aren't going to be in contact as well, which means our braking and steering is going to be diminished. Plus, our headlights are going to be aiming up, potentially blinding people if you're driving at night.I'm going to go ahead and put the weight of my trailer down on my truck and we'll see how much it actually affects the back end. Now, you can see that it did lower our rear suspension just a little bit. more

Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Installation - 2018 Ford F-150

Hi there Ford owners. Today on our 2018 Ford F-150, we're going to be installing Firestone's Ride Rite Air Helper Springs. Air bags is the solution that'll solve issues with hauling heavy loads or trailers behind your vehicle that causes the backend to sag down. The air bags will help lift the rear of your vehicle back up, returning it to its normal ride height. There's a lot of benefits to having it at the normal ride height. When your vehicles sag down in the back, it causes the front to point upwards, which makes your headlights point towards the sky, reducing visibility when driving at night. Additionally, when you have your geometry set like this, your suspension is not acting as it was originally intended to, this can cause increased tire wear and reduced handling performance. When you brake, your weight wants to shift towards the front, and having the weight leaning back towards like this will cause that weight to not shift properly and it will increase the stopping distance required to stop your vehicle. more

Today on our 2016 Ford F-150, you're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs for the rear axle. What these are going to do for us, these are going to help take extra strain off our rear suspension when we're carrying a heavy load. They're going to be constructed of a two ply reinforced rubber, have 5,000 pound weight capacity, and that's combined. Keep in mind that does not increase the load carrying capacity of your vehicle. We're not going to have to drill any holes. Going to mount directly to the existing hole in the reframe, or bottom of your frame rail. more

Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Rear Air Helper Springs Installation - 2017 Ford F-150

Today in our 2017 Ford F-150, we're going to be installing Air Lift's Load Lifter 5,000 Air Helper Springs to the rear axle and this is what our airbags are going to look like when they're installed. They're going to sit between the frame and your axle to help support the loads in the back of your vehicle. It's going to be a double convoluted shape with two separate chambers. It's going to be a dual-ply fabric and have roll plates on each side to provide you with good off-road support. They provide up to 5,000 pounds of load carrying capacity. Now, this doesn't increase the amount of capacity your vehicle can carry, but it's how much it can help support. You can adjust this between five and 100 PSI to get the proper lift you need to help bring your vehicle back to it's stock ride height. Five PSI, being an unloaded vehicle, and 100 PSI being the maximum load you can put on.Included with your kit, you'll receive manual inflation valves. What's nice about this is you'll receive two, one for each side, so if you have an uneven load in the back of your vehicle, you can adjust them independently from one another to bring your vehicle back to level. So, we're got our work truck here with all the tools and everything that we need loaded up to do the job. We'll check our ride height, we're at about 37 and a half inches. more

Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus Rear Axle Air Springs Installation - 2018 Ford F-150

Today on our 2018 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs for the Rear Axle, part number AL89284.As you can see, once we add our load to the back of the bed of the truck, we have a significant squat in the back, which is actually going to raise up the front end. That's going to cause a lot of different problems. The back end we're putting a lot of strain and stress on the suspension. We're not going to have as much travel as we normally do, and then on the front, it's actually pulling the front end up causing a teetering effect, so our headlights are misaligned. Our tires are not making as much contact as they should, which is going to diminish our steering and braking. Here's what our airbag looks like once we have it installed. It's going to fit in between the frame and the axle and provide us the support we need whenever we have a heavy load like a trailer, fifth wheel, gooseneck, or a heavy load in the bed. Now, with our airbags installed, we actually got our truck back to where it should be with only 40 PSI. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford F150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Airlift right control air helper spring for the rear axle, part number AL59570.Whether you're towing a heavy trailer or your truck's under constant load like ours is with all the toolboxes, ladder racks, not to mention all the other equipment we've put in, you will notice that the back end is going to sag down a little bit and the ride's just not that comfortable. Not to mention, it's going to put a lot of strain on our rear suspension and it's actually going to lift up the front just a bit, which will misalign our headlights and not give us as good a traction on the front tires. Our airbags are going to help support that load and that weight and put our suspension back where it should be. Before we install them, let's take it out for a drive and see how it handles. As I drive my truck over the speed bumps, I can definitely tell you, I can feel it resonating through the seat and it just feels a lot harsher than it normally does, especially with all our toolboxes and equipment in the back.As I come up to the slalom course and I'm going around the turns, it definitely wants to lean extremely hard before it actually starts turning. Since one of my toolboxes has more stuff in it than the other, some turns are a little worse than the others. Here's what our right control air springs are going to look like once we have them installed. These are going to give us that extra support that we need whenever we're hauling a heavy load, or pulling a heavy trailer. more

Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit, part number SSA28.Here's what our SuperSprings are going to look like once we have 'em installed. Now, these are going to give us the support we need whenever we're hauling a heavy load or towing a heavy trailer. Typically, whenever we're hauling something extremely heavy, our suspension wants to flex a lot and our back end sags down. Well, these are going to provide us the extra support by activating whenever our suspension flexes. The rollers on the end of our leaf spring are going to activate our helper spring and provide us that extra support, but also still giving us a nice ride when we're not towing something heavy because it's going to deactivate those springs and still have a nice, comfortable ride.Since they're attached to the front and back of our factory leaf springs, it's also going to act like a sway bar and it's going to prevent our leaf springs from twisting, giving us a lot more stability when we're driving down the road. The multiple notches in the end here are going to provide us with a little bit of customization. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford F-150, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Sumo Spring solo custom helper springs for the rear axle and that's gonna be part number SSR-117-47. Whenever we're towing or hauling something heavy, the back end typically sags. That's gonna put a lot of stress and strain on our factory suspension in the back, not to mention in the front, it's gonna lift up, which will misalign our headlights and take less contact of our tire touching the road. So we'll go ahead and measure the factory measurements. The back here, the center line of the wheel, it's gonna be right about 40 1/4". Now at the front, it's gonna be right at about 37 1/2" and that's with no weight in the bed of the truck. more

I have my truck pulled up to my camper here. If you've ever hauled a heavy camper or towed a heavy load, a common problem is that the sag we get in the back of our truck. The back end will get pushed down, the front end will raise up, and you kind of get that floating feeling when you're driving down the road because the front tires aren't making that good of contact and we're putting a lot of stress on the rear suspension. Before I full hook up my camper, I'm going to take a few measurements. more

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2017 Ford F-150, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Timbren suspension enhancement system for the rear axle, part number TFRTT1504E. Here's what our Timbrens look like, once we have them installed. They are going to mount in between our frame and our axle, giving us the support that we need whenever we're hauling a heavy load or towing a heavy trailer. They are going to replace the factory jounce stops and provide us a lot more support, not only because they're taller. As you can see here with our factory jounce stop, it is much smaller. These are more designed to prevent us from actually hitting the frame on the axle, and not really provide any support. Our Timbrens are actually going to get more progressively stiff with the more weight we add, but in the beginning, they're going to be nice soft cushion, so we're still going to have nice ride. Our Timbrens are going to work independently from each other, so it's going to help with those off-center loads or if we're taking a very sharp turn. It's going to help a lot with that body roll, and just the back end of the vehicle sagging, as well. more

Now the need for a suspension upgrade typically comes from hauling. You're going to have either something in the bed of the truck or a large trailer and it's causing sag in the back of the vehicle. We've got about 1,000 pounds worth of water here in the back of the truck. We measured this before adding the water and it was at about 40 inches. After adding the water, it's down to about 3 and 1/2 inches. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Ford F150, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Timbren rear suspension enhancement system. Part number is TFR1504E. Now the need for rear suspension enhancement typically comes from either hauling heavy loads in the bed of your truck, like an in bed camper or maybe some equipment, or if you're hauling a trailer. What will happen is once you have the bed loaded down, this one has a fifth wheel hitch in it, so you'll put your fifth wheel on it and it makes the rear of the truck squat down. That puts a lot of strain on the rear suspension package. Once you have your Timbren installed, once that squat happens, you see there's a narrow gap here, you'll have limited squat until the Timbren engages the stop. more
